Last Saturday, we went shopping in Trinoma. As we are about to pay in the counter, I noticed the eco bags hanging in the middle of the square counter. I asked mom if she can buy the eco totes and put the stuffs there instead of using plastic bags. The staffs immediately responded saying that the items we bought should still be placed in plastic bags and not directly to the eco bags. I didn't know how to react. Honestly. So I asked why...
The plastic bags that Landmark is using are "biodegradable". So I thought, why the hell do you think I should get the eco totes when your bags are eco-friendly naman pala?
I buy eco totes for these reasons:
-I want to contribute in reviving mother nature.
-I want to lessen the garbage in Manila particularly the plastics w/c usually get clogged in Manila's drainage system
-I want to feel less guilt knowing that every paper bag is made from a cut tree, and every plastic (even biodegradable) takes time to decompose (if they do decompose) and still add to Manila's garbage mountain, or worse in waters.
I want to know, how long does it take for a single Landmark biodegradable plastic to fully decompose?
I think selling eco totes is like giving the shoppers a choice whether to use "biodegrable" plastic bags or eco bags, and not just for profit.
So people, please understand the purpose of these eco bags and ask yourselves. Don't just buy because you feel like you're helping Earth when you buy these totes -this is only the beginning. The next steps are what's crucial. You bring these totes everywhere you go and use them instead of plastic or paper bags.
